Many people are aware that driving with a cracked windshield is very dangerous as it negatively affects visibility when driving. However, did you know that you could get a ticket in Houston if you don’t repair a windshield crack? Yes, you read that right.
In Texas, drivers can be issued a ticket for having a crack in their windshield on the drivers side that impedes their line of sight. Basically, it is known as a “fix-it” law, and this type of law is common not just in Texas but in states across the United States. This is how you get tickets for having broken headlights, mirror lights, etc. The good news is, according to Texas law, you can get the ticket dismissed if you fix the broken equipment prior to the court date on your ticket, and pay a $10 administrative fee.
However, who wants to go through the embarrassment of getting pulled over by a police officer and getting a traffic citation for a cracked windshield? We sure wouldn’t.
